Green Jade Venus of Willendorf
Green Jade Venus of Willendorf.
Venus of Willendorf is a prehistoric sculpture which was discovered in Willendorf, Austria in 1908. The original is in the Natural History Museum, Vienna. It is thought that she is a fertility figure, a good-luck totem, a mother goddess symbol, or an aphrodisiac made by men for the appreciation of men and a representation of female beauty. Some also think she may be a depiction of an ancient goddess. The statue is also know as The Woman of Willendorf by those that prefer not to use the term 'Venus' as the consider it to have 'religious' connotations - there are also various other theories about the significance of these little statues. Either way, they are a wonderful representation of the feminine...
